In a year of formulaic, mind-numbing flicks with no imagination or heart like Letters to Juliet, Flipped is a welcome breath of fresh air. It's about 8 or so years in the lives of two kids who meet when when one of them moves into a new neighborhood. Bryce, being a typical second grade boy, finds her attention embarrassing and unwanted.
As they get older, that dynamic between them remains pretty much the same, but we wouldn't have a very interesting movie if that's all there was to it. Eventually Bryce finds himself on the other side of the equation flipped, get it? How odd is it that a movie about a couple of kids handles the topic of love in a more mature and genuine way than almost all of the adult-oriented romantic comedies that we're buried under each year?
There's no doubt about it that Flipped will make you say "aww" on occasion, but there's a lot more to it than just kids being cute. It's about a girl who's loved the same boy since the day she first looked at his eyes, but soon she begins to realize that maybe she's all wrong. For she realized she doesn't really even know him. Than when he hurts her she finally gives up on him The boy on the other hand didn't believe it to be love at first sight and has been trying to get her to go away by dating other girls and ignoring her.
Than when she stops liking him, he starts to think maybe she's more than what he thought. The only issue is he's worried about what his friend thinks, I read the book after the movie and I do believe there are both things better about the book and the movie, but I do have to say the movie ending is better to me than the books.

But it doesn't have that great a substance to it, some characters are 2D, though by showing your kids this film it certainly has a strong female role model, and the guy has to realize that he shouldn't care what his friend thinks. The dialogue is water thin at times, though I did like seeing both sides of the story from the 2 main actors. It's a cute movie, and I watched it on basic cable, but could tell the kids swore at times, so be cautious of that.

Learning to stand up for what you know is right is the overarching theme of this movie and we see it play out with a variety of emotions. The last scene is priceless! There are some brief, isolated language issues kids this age will have heard these words before and one reference to looking at a Playboy magazine although this is not what is happening and nothing of the sort is shown , but these instances are far overshadowed by the uplifting and positive messages in the film!

McAuliffe does a great job portraying a younger, more naive version of DiCaprio's character, even if the actor only appears for a short section of the film. As a part of the captured group of Saviors, Alden displays clear leadership skills and a desire to avoid violence as he convinces his fellow Saviors to surrender instead of creating more bloodshed.
As the Saviors are held captive, Alden acts as their leader, negotiating with Maggie about better treatment. Over time, Alden starts to feel a detachment from the Saviors, especially after Negan and Simon Steven Ogg show a lack of care for the lives of the captured group.
