How old is lb dantzler

Not bad at all for a 14th rounder, which is "senior sign" territory. The short answer to this question is I am cautiously optimistic Dantzler can become a legitimate prospect to follow in the Blue Jays farm system. However, I'm not ready to proclaim him the greatest thing since the napkin just yet. Not to take anything away, but what he accomplished in the Northwest league should be expected from a highly polished year old hitter with two years of SEC playing experience.

He'll have to prove himself against more talented pitchers who are also more adept at executing their gameplans. Listed at 5'11" and lbs, Dantzler's short, compact build and right handed throwing arm doesn't fit the first base prototype, which may have knocked his draft value down to those who evaluated him. His defense at first base is average at best. In other words, building upon the success he had in the Northwest League at higher levels will be crucial in establishing himself as a serious prospect.

The pressure to continue to perform with the bat will be immense. I wasn't around to watch South Carolina play in so I unfortunately I can't comment on what changes he made that led to such a dramatically improved performance from Junior. However, after watching a few video highlights and comparing them with what I saw this year, I noticed that his lower half weight transfer in became a lot cleaner this year and he did a better job at keeping his hands back as he planted his front foot, allowing for his bat to stay in the zone longer, which I am theorizing as the cause behind the dramatic rise in batting average.

He also does a good job of consistently "finishing" his swing, keeping both hands on the bat and driving all the way through the end of the swing. This year, as a senior, Dantzler has taken off and become the Gamecocks best hitter. This season he's improved his numbers across the board with a. In 70 less plate appearances he's hit five more home runs and taken six more walks.

His defense, again, has been okay at first base. When I look at his hitting stance and swing it reminds me a lot of Jeff Bagwell's with a few flaws. Before you go all crazy allow me to demonstrate. In this GIF we have Dantzler striking out. Notice the wide stance, how he brings his hands back, the toe tap and the finish to the toe tap and the stillness of his head. Now check out Bagwell hitting a homerun.

Now some of the things that Bagwell is doing differently than Dantzler. Bagwell takes a larger toe tap, has much better hip rotation and balance through out his entire body. Watch Dantzler's butt. It moves quite a bit, which shifts his entire hitting stance and throws off his balance.

That's not to say Dantzler hasn't had success with his stance. Here is hitting a single:. More L. Hide Minors. Hide Foreign. Hide College. Register Batting.
